In the event of a sewage backup in your home, it's crucial to remain calm and take immediate action.

Begin by turning off any water sources such as faucets, dishwashers, or washing machines to prevent further water inflow into the plumbing system.

To clean up after the incident, use a disinfectant cleaner like Lysol or Pine Sol. Alternatively, you can create a bleach solution with one part bleach to nine parts water for effective cleaning. Any carpets affected by the backup should be thoroughly steam cleaned.

If you notice that only drains at higher elevations (like a second-floor bathroom) are backing up while those on lower levels are not, this could indicate an issue specific to that area of your plumbing system.

If the backup is situated at a lower elevation or is the nearest drain to the septic tank, it could indicate an issue with the septic system. It’s recommended to uncover the lid of the septic tank and open its inspection ports for examination. Normally, liquid levels in a well-functioning tank should be about 1 foot below its lid.

If you observe that this level is either equal to or less than this standard, it might suggest a blockage in pipes leading to your septic tank. In such cases, professional hydro jetting and camera of the line would be advisable. However, if you find that liquid levels are higher than usual, it means waste materials are reaching your tank but not being effectively transferred to the absorption field. This could be due to several different issues with a clogged or blocked drain field that our technician needs to diagnose, or a simple filter clogged on the outlet side of your septic tank.

If the system requires another backup within a few weeks of having the tank pumped by us, "Independent Septic And Sewer Llc", it’s probable that the issue lies with the absorption field or the main sewer line to the septic tank. We will know this is going to happen because at the time of pumping we also perform an inspection of what caused the backup or issue at no charge and will inform the owner of a solution for repair and if the owner declines the solution of repair we will email an estimate for this repair. Septic Tank Pumping

Septic Tank Pumping

Septic tanks allow waste to separate into three layers: solids, effluent, and scum. The solids settle to the bottom where microorganisms decompose them. Effluent is sewer water that drains out into the drain field. Scum is the top layer and will eventually will break down and go to the bottom of the tank.

Upon arrival we excavate and open the septic tank lids, Pump and remove all liquid and solids, have the owner look into the tank to see it is emptied and then put all lids back and cover up the tank with dirt. Home owners, You want to see for yourself the tank is empty and be weary of companies that will put the lid back real fast and say it was emptied. Seeing is believing. Other companies may only insert a vacuum hose in the tank and only suck out the liquids. We do it the right way and remove all liquids and solids from the tank.
